I picked up 3D Dot Game Heroes years and years ago, didn't really play it, then sold it... and then recently picked it up again. ... Still haven't played it. 😅 But I'm actually going to this time!

I love Graces F, it was my first platinum I think back when I got the PS3 Though Xillia is my favorite in the series.

Wonderful to hear you liked Final Fantasy 13 as well Paige, I don't think I've ever heard anyone on youtube NOT trash it haha! I didn't warm to it at first either but after a while I couldn't help but love it. The soundtrack is wonderful too. However I actually had a better time with 13-2 I think as it hit the ground running and also had a great score. I remember getting the collectors edition with soundtrack brand new for only 20 bucks because it was just not a very popular game at the time.

I was so hyped for FF13, probably watched the trailer on my 360 100+ times. Got 1/3 through the game, became tedious and frustrating and I dropped it. Would love to reappraise it in 2024. It has a Top 5 all time soundtrack for me. Amazing ost.

Great video! 3D Dot Game Heroes is our white whale of gaming!!!!! Never had a PS3 (was having a similar experience to you w/FF13 on XBox360). Our friend showed us 3D Dot Game Heroes and it looked amazing. It was getting an XBox360 port, which we were hyped for. It got cancelled!! It was never ported to anything else, and it can't be emulated because the game crashes. It's rare and expensive now. Hopefully some day it gets a port to something else🫠

Love all of the Xenoblade Chronicles love! Really hope that they remaster X so I can give it another go. All of this Harvestella talk is making me want to go play it sooner rather than later. I just had someone else tell me how much they were enjoying it. Think I’ll pencil it in for September. Great video as always!

If I ever downsize my collection the PS3 collection would probably be the first to go. I don't care about the PS3 and Xbox 360 era of collecting games. It does have a few games that need to be preserved like Dark Souls, Metal Gear Solid 4, Warhawk, Folklore, come to mind.

What objection do you have with booting up the PS3 and playing the games on that?

Final Fantasy XIII is backwards compatible on modern Xbox platforms and the resolution was upgraded significantly on One X or Series X. (not Series S) I love those games, to many games are open world nowadays and XIII part 1 was actually refreshingly linear for most of the game. You need to really adjust at the strategically as the game limits how much yuo can level up to keep the game challenging, you can't upgrade to max level until you've finished the story. There is a PC version, (if you're not into mods, i would go for the windows version and not the steam version, which requires an Xbox Account on PC) The PC version has an Easy mode, the console versions don't, XIII-2 has an easy mode on consoles but the original doesn't.

Final Fantasy XIII does have some difficult bosses as another person said. Unfortunately you have to level grind and keep putting the points into the grid. system. I loved it though it was great. My pile of PS3 shame includes Folklore, Eternal Sonata, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Tales of Xillia 1 & 2, and both Tales of Symphonia games. FF XIII-2 & 3, I plan to play on Xbox Series X (where I beat XIII).

I am currently playing Final Fantasy XII on steam and I won’t stop until I finish it. I think it will be a good game.

I think you'll become a Tales of Series fan once you find that one game that will entice you to the franchise. The best three Tales of games that I always recommend are the most popular ones. Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia. I started with Symphonia but didn't fully get into the series until I played Vesperia with my brother then I got into Abyss because I watched the first few episodes of the anime here on RUclips.

I love the Final Fantasy XIII series. All three are aces! 3D Dot Game Hero is also fantastic. I haven’t played it beyond the halfway point. What I have played is SO much fun!! Heavy Rain. I’ve been close to the finish, but I haven’t reached it, yet. I mentioned those because you have them in your title shot. Persona 5. I have it for PS3 and Switch and I haven’t really played it much, though I want to. Kingdom Hearts 3 is collecting dust because I have the 1.5 and 2.8, yet I haven’t gotten to them because it’s just so much to bite off. No No Kuni and Ni No Kuni 2. I just have so much that I have them backlogged. I have them on PS3 and Switch, too. There are many more, but it’s to embarrassing to say. Whenever I fire up the PS3, I just play Ultra Street Fighter IV. I LOVE that game. It may be my all time favorite fighter.

I think the problem with PS3 JRPGs is that we got alot of 7 or 8/10 games, very few of them were truly special. Good games are still good games, but they usually dont leave a lasting impression.

Tales of Xilia. Definitely. Tales of Graces F afterwards. Why not try playing them now? But limit it like an hour per day. I think you’ll beat it in 2 months for one game.

Final Fantasy XIII only got all those sequels because Square Enix needed to makeup costs for the Crystal Engine, so cheap-to-make XIII sequels with reused assets to payoff that engine. Also, Graces f is my biggest PS3 backlog shame. You and I both need to play that. I did play Xillia and I know that oneis good. Honestly because of all the PS3 Tales of games I bought, my PS3 is still hooked up and ready.

That whole generation with the ps3, wii, and 360 still holds up well today. I definitely have a lot piles of shame too haha but, im starting to not even worry about the backlog and just have fun playing whatever i feel like.

No offense completing multiple games is a young mans Game.. tho, us adults still game and can collect we also work hard and have other things going on.. lets just appreciate it all at our own pace! Like anything else they crank out so many titles its hard to play catch up you know? A game I highly recommend is MGS4! Stellar ps3 experience and its a title that was infamously ahead of its time!

I still play on my PS3, it's the only "retro" console I even use since my PC can play PS1 and 2 games through emulation and rom files, PS5 can play PS4 games and I mostly covered Nintendo's games through my Switch Online subscription that I had for a time. PS3 games however, I can only play on PS3, unless if the rumors are true and Sony does in fact do PS3 emulation but even then, it probably will take years to build up their back catalogue. I still go to conventions to buy PS3 games and make it a priority to play 1 PS3 game a month even if it feels like it when it comes to PS3, I have covered a great portion of the libarary, but I still like playing random PS3 games. I am surprised FF13 never got a remaster despite 99% of the series being on other platforms and I'm also waiting for a Tales of Xillia remaster, hopefully they also do Xillia 2 as well.

I tried several times to get into FF13. I just kept getting bored. 3d Dot Heroes is hard. It's like old school Zelda but harder than the NES games. It's also a FromSoftware game.

I never thought about the lack of good ps3 rpgs. But you are totally right.

I still play my PS3, my PS3 pile of shame is pretty big. One's I'll mention are Jak HD, Rayman Origins, Deus EX, Deadly Premonition, Sleeping Dogs, etc etc, hopefully I'll get to them soon, Deus Ex overwhelms me with the amount of hours needed to play it.

3D Dot Game Heroes is such a classic title! Played the early stages of the game on a friend's PS3 console many years ago, and would love the chance to play it again!

Ok kool video. FF13 a lot of ppl didn't like it & I thought I won't either but turned out it was actually good, I like the stagger so when an enemy goes up I try to get as much hits in & finished the game, loved the summons which is my fav as it changed in 10 & 12 etc. Didn't do everything. 13-2 didn't have the toss enemy in the air so I dropped that. I have Tales of Graces F haha but i dropped it as I didn't feel it starting from kids but one day. I didn't play Xillia but I played part 2 & I was pissed with the DEBT system we already owing ppl in real life why must we owe in a game and as soon as you get some money bam the woman comes to take it nah I dropped it but part 1 I'll play one day.

Is the boss in FFXIII Cid Raines? I have tried easily 15 times and every strategy play through Watch. They all use different characters.

Not only is the PS3 one of my favourite consoles of all time, but it’s currently hooked up in one of my most played consoles. I have a huge backlog of PS3 games. It’s also my largest physical collection. It was fun to watch your list and see what you still wanted to play a lot of these games I still have to get as the collection grow ever bigger and bigger.

I think the reason Final Fantasy 13 gets so much hate is because they made 2 sequels to Final Fantasy 13 instead of giving people a Final Fantasy 7 remake or Kingdom Hearts 3 at that time. Also a game i think you should try is Dante's Inferno. It's a really fun God of War type game. And EA did a fake protest over the game.

I need to finish 3D Dot Game Heroes myself. Fun game but I find it pretty hard. I thoroughly enjoyed both Tales of Graces f and Xillia. Probably the big 1 for me on PS3 that I want to get through but still haven't is Yakuza: Dead Souls. I know I would have fun with it just seeing Kiryu shooting down zombies haha

The Lost Planet series on PS 3 is something I have most of but have never tried.

I’d say Metal Gear Solid 4, but only if you played 1, 2, and 3 first.

3D Dot Game Heroes is a good game, and it has NES Zelda vibes on how it operates/functions. If you like that era then this game is a good time. You can customize things, and edit your character/sword with the voxels. I have recently been playing it on my PS3 as well.

Tales would be my starting point (either one), I really enjoy Graces F.

Awesome video, as always. Totally agree with you on the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack. I think the Tales series kind of dropped in quality after Vesperia until Arise came out. What Tales games did you play? Was it Symphonia and Arise?

Funny. I’m in the same situation with every game you identified here. FF13 I’m at the end but didn’t care to see it through. All the others I have sealed when I bought them and just never opened them. I try not to buy just to buy these days. 😂

Well now I'm just curious what else is lingering in the PS3 backlog.

Xbox 360 actually had more Japanese RPGs, even a Korean RPG. I barely played Fairy Fencer F. It just came out right before I had to leave for deployment. I regret not getting 3D Dot Game Heroes. Play it for the both of us.

That's a quality list of games. I'd probably recommend them all, well most of them. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a much more interesting take on XIII's combat. It doesn't have quite the same production quality, but it's a lot more fun to play. (Lightning Returns, though, you can easily skip) Both Tales games are great games and some of the better games in the series. Tales of Graces is the better game, with better combat and just more content in general, but Xillia is very streamlined which makes it much easier to get into and it isn't even all that long. So I'd recommend to play Xillia before Graces. (btw. it's "Exillia"). 3D Dot Game Heroes is fantastic. As you said, it plays very much like an old Zelda game, it also likes to parody a lot of old Dragon Quest tropes. Personally this would be my #1 pick, but since these games are all good, just start with what you feel like playing. Tokyo Jungle also is a very unique game. I guess today it would seem a bit like a roguelite since you basically start over again and again. You're constantly unlocking new animals that all play differently and therefore you have to change your strategy on how to survive. It really is like nothing else I ever played, but I also found it rather repetitive after a while. So this might actually be the one game on your list I'm not that enthusiastic about. Just give it a try. A few runs to get a feel for the game. This is something you can pick up again from time to time.

If I were you just play the Final Fantasy games. After that move on to PS5 switch & newer consoles. PS3 is obsolete now. This console even more so because they have the same type of games on the PS4 & 5 & they just run a lot better on a PS5 etc.

Tales of Xillia was very long but so worth it. Amazing experience.

i dont think these games was bad finally fantasy had a good story. 3d dot hero is ok as well.
